The Solar board contains an array of solar cells for generating the satellite’s power, as well as sun sensors for supporting attitude determination.
We are using TriSolX GaAs triple-junction solar cells, which are cut from Azurespace 3G28C cells. These cells have an efficiency of 28% - much higher than the silicon cells used in the previous satellite revision.
A sun sensor is essentially an array of photodiodes that is used to detect the direction of the sun relative to the satellite. We will incorporate two sun sensors on two perpendicular long faces. The sun sensors we are using are AAC ClydeSpace SS200 sun sensors. The link here is to the brochure page - the more detailed datasheet is protected under NDA and cannot be released freely here. Please contact one of the electrical leads if you need more detailed info on the sun sensors.
