Create a list of requirements for your design for the part selection process. If you are unfamiliar with the part specs, each section of this guide includes the important specs you should consider.
Parts for Selection
Below is a list of components that the Comms Team will most likely need:
- Microcontroller
- Amplifiers (LNA & PA)
Microcontroller Selection
Here are some microcontroller manufacturers you can consider:
- Silicon Labs
- NXP
- Atmel
- Texas Instruments
Refer to the manufacturer’s documentation for your selection process. Each manufacturer provides a series of documents you can find online that explains the details of their microcontroller products.
- Selector Guide: comparison to other chips and chip families (ideal for selection)
- Product Brief: detailed feature specs, overview of product, use cases
- Datasheet: detailed technical specs, electrical, register, timer characteristics, etc.
- Family Technical Reference Manual: configuration details, operation description (for writing bare metal firmware)
- Chip Errata: all known defects in the chip and mitigations (refer here for trouble shooting)
