This is the Orbital Electrical Team passive component library, a database of (eventually) all the passive components used by the team on our boards. This is a good first place to check when sourcing a passive component for a new design.

All passive components (resistors, capacitors, and inductors) used on Orbital boards are (should be) tracked in this database. We would like to stop using passive components from Altium’s Manufacturer Part Search or other obsolete passive components in our Altium library.

Using Components

The library should be the first place to check whenever you need to add a passive component. Just select the appropriate tab and check if there is a component that matches the specs you need.

Once you’ve selected a specific component, place the appropriate standard passive component in your Altium schematic. These are STD RESISTOR, STD CAPACITOR, STD INDUCTOR, STD LED (and a few others in development for other diodes and connectors). Then, match the Altium component parameters to the spreadsheet columns as follows:

Comment = Part Number

Description = Description

Value = Resistance/Capacitance/Inductance (if it’s an LED, the Forward Voltage parameter is the one that should be filled in here).

Set the footprint to match the Package Size column

See the images below as an example.

Adding Components

If there is no component in the spreadsheet that matches the specs you need, feel free to add a new row to the spreadsheet (please keep them sorted by value). You can spec a part via Digikey that matches all the specs you need, then add all its parameters into the spreadsheet. The Description column uses a formula that you can copy from one of the existing rows.
