Procedure

When selecting a part, whether it be a fastener or an MCU, the procedure below must be followed:

1. Create a copy of the Part Selection Guide Template and place it within a special folder in your subteam’s wiki for parts selection guides.
2. Fill out the selection guide headings with the appropriate information. This requires you to research important factors that you need to consider before making a selection, and providing criteria specific to your application.
3. Once you’ve set your criteria, begin searching for parts. Place top candidates in the Parts Selection Tracker and fill out the spreadsheet with as many criteria from your part selection guide as you can find within the datasheet. Make sure to follow the instructions on the spreadsheet for how to create a new page and what you need to set up.
4. Make sure to link your part selection guide within the sheet that you create.
5. Place any parameterized searches, such as from Digikey and Mouser, as a link within the Parts Selection Tracker.
6. Once part selection is complete, mark the item green within the parts selection list, and complete the explanation for why the part was chosen within the selection guide template.
