As directed by the CSDC, Educational Outreach is broken up into several parts: University, High School, Elementary School, Business/Professional Organization, and Community.
This page is used to track each of these sections and what we've completed for the purpose of submission for the Educational Outreach Award.
To use:
- Add the outreach initiatives to the table and add any required info within the sub-page
- Change status as things change accordingly
- Write up a quick paragraph or two about the event once it's over
Some points for the outreach award questions:
- General content of all the presentations typically involved talking about the need for CubeSats, what they are, the mission that we’re participating in, and the work being done on the team
- Often brought engineering models of our satellite components to display and explain more about
- Also included activities where young students were challenged to think with an engineering mindset (e.g. CubeSat cutout activity at one of the high schools - try to fit everything in the satellite while also maintaining all the functionality, other planned activities about reading temperature sensor values with Arduinos)
- Outreach presentations helped bring lots of awareness to space engineering and showed students how they could get involved at a young age. Also displayed to companies and the general community the importance of space engineering. Students enjoyed learning about technical details of how satellites work, as well as where they’re used today.
- Team members learned a lot from experts that we presented to, such as MARC and KWARC. These activities expanded our network and connected us with more people. Presentations with students also showed the team the importance of showing more incoming youth opportunities where they could get involved in pursuing their passion for space.
- What distinguishes our efforts: catered them to each age group and audience. Found a lot of engagement from different groups. Some of the presentations also served as recruitment events for students on the team to get into the space industry and grow their careers
- Include letters of thanks from the emails
