Tips
- A lot of the time, many different terms are used in ham radio to mean the same thing
- Transceiver = Transmitter = Receiver (since mostly all of them are transceiver anyway). However the test questions make a distinction between a transmitter and receiver)
- Radio = Radiation = RF
- On the test, Radio/RF mainly refers to EM waves in the hundreds of kHz or hundreds of MHz
- Audio = Speech = Voice
- Voltage (V) is the same as Electromotive Force (E)
- Inductor = Coil = Choke
- “10 meter band” means 29.5MHz to 29.7MHz → simple conversion between wavelength and frequency
- Bandwidth: the range of frequencies you can use within a band to communicate
- Center frequency: middle of your given bandwidth
- Before answering the questions, reread the question and look at all the options
- Terms you’ve never heard of before often = incorrect answer
- 30 MHz: people with Basic licenses cannot transmit below this frequency
- Above this frequency is VHF, UHF
- 30 MHz to 300 MHz → maximum radiation exposure risk
- For a lot of questions, the correct answer is the nicest most polite behaviour
